Wellness Programs
The mission of the fitness and wellness programs at MSPT is to:
Provide a balanced, safe, satisfying, and effective approach to fitness and wellness for all ages and fitness levels.
Provide group classes, workshops, and private sessions that bridge the gap between rehabilitation and fitness.
Provide comprehensive programs that focus on the needs of individuals who have chronic physical conditions, are rehabilitating from injury or surgery, or who otherwise prefer to participate in carefully developed fitness activities.
Transitional Yoga Program
Starting in the Spring 2008, Susan Grote, PT, CYI will be instructing a series of yoga classes offered for MSPT patients. These classes will be geared to former or current MSPT patients who are interested in trying yoga or for those returning to a previous yoga practice.
Susan brings unique skills and knowledge to the classes. As a MSPT physical therapist, Susan has specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of movement impairments. She understands that each person has a unique set of physical abilities and limitations. Additionally she has spent many years studying and teaching yoga classes and developing her own personal practice.
Susan was first introduced to yoga in 1990. She has had many teachers and influences over the years. She has completed several teacher trainings, including the Seattle School of Yoga in 1992, yoga for people with cancer in 1999, and most recently at Planet Earth Yoga Center. She teaches in the viniyoga tradition. Viniyoga is a yoga style that allows all aspects of yoga to adapt to the needs of the student and integrates movement, breathing and awareness in order to improve both physical and mental health.
Susan has been teaching yoga since 1993 in a variety of settings, from general classes to specific groups—prenatal, postpartum, yoga for people with cancer, and yoga for kids. Currently, she teaches a general class for all levels as well as a prenatal class. In all her classes, Susan brings clarity and sensitivity to the individual needs of her students.
The MSPT classes will organized into a series of four classes with each class designed to build upon what was taught the previous week. Participants can expect to receive feedback on form and technique. Our goal in offering these classes is to provide a safe environment to try a yoga practice. Understanding that the class participants are coming out of physical therapy, Susan will be able to provide feedback and instruction geared to each person’s unique limitations and goals.
The first class series will begin March 3, 2008. Classes will be offered on Monday evenings at 7pm. The cost of the class series is $70 for the entire series.
