Carrie Hall, PT, MHS

Carrie Hall, PT, MHS has been a physical therapist since 1983. She earned her undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University and graduate degree from Washington University in Saint Louis. Carrie has been a colleague of Shirley Sahrmann, PT, PhD, FAPTA since 1983 and has taught over 200 continuing education courses as developed by Dr. Sahrmann entitled Diagnosis and Treatment of Movement Impairment Syndromes both nationally and internationally since 1984.

Dr. Sahrmann has been highly influential in shaping Carrie’s philosophical approach toward evaluation and patient management in physical therapy. Much of Carrie’s career has been devoted to teaching Dr. Sahrmann’s concepts of movement and exercise to patients, physical therapists, and other exercise providers such as personal trainers, yoga, and Pilates instructors.

Movement Systems Physical Therapy was founded in 1995 by Carrie. Her motivation was to build a clinical practice where she could implement her philosophical approach toward diagnosis and treatment of movement impairment syndromes. Over the years, she has been joined by several highly skilled physical therapists trained in Dr. Sahrmann’s theories.

In addition to her clinical practice and continuing education teaching , Carrie has served on several faculties including Washington University in Saint Louis , Northwestern University in Chicago , and University of Washington here in Seattle . Her role as University instructor motivated her to take on lead authorship of “Therapeutic exercise: Moving Toward Function,” completing the first edition in 1999 and the second in 2004. This text is widely used in entry level Masters and DPT programs in both the U.S. and abroad.

In Carrie’s spare time she is busy taking care of her home and raising her 3 young daughters; gardening, cooking, entertaining, and staying fit with walking, biking, and running around with her children. Her husband, a hospital administrator and physical therapist, ensures ample doses of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, and skiing when weather permits. She strives for a balanced lifestyle fulfilling career, family, and personal goals.
