Susan Grote

Susan Grote has been a physical therapist since 1996.  She earned her bachelors of science degree from the University of Washington.  Prior to her degree in physical therapy, she received a bachelors of arts in architecture from the University of Washington in 1989.

Susan has always had a fascination for the body, movement, and wellness.  She was drawn to yoga, beginning her own personal practice in 1990, and completed a year- long teacher training in 1992.  She has been teaching yoga since 1993 in a variety of settings.

Susan’s focus in physical therapy has been primarily in orthopedics.  She was first introduced to the teachings of Shirley Sarhmann, PT, PhD, FAPTA by Carrie Hall, PT, MHS in 1995 and began to integrate the principles of muscle balance and movement retraining early in her career.  She has also studied manual therapy techniques with the North American Institute of Manual Therapy.  In addition, Susan incorporates elements of yoga including body awareness, breathing and relaxation.  She has a love of teaching and helping others help themselves toward better health.

Currently, Susan is teaching a yoga series at MSPT.  In her classes, Susan brings clarity and sensitivity to the individual needs of her students.  The MSPT classes will organized into a series of four classes with each class designed to build upon what was taught the previous week. Participants can expect to receive feedback on form and technique. Our goal in offering these classes is to provide a safe environment to try a yoga practice. Understanding that the class participants are coming out of physical therapy, Susan will be able to provide feedback and instruction geared to each person’s unique limitations and goals.

Classes will be offered on Monday evenings at 7pm. The cost of the class series is $70 for the entire series.

Outside of work, Susan lives with her husband Peter, and together they spend a great deal of their time raising their three children.  Personally, Susan continues to enjoy her yoga practice, playing guitar with friends, and spending time in the great outdoors.
