Nolana Newton, DPT, OCS

Nolana received her doctorate in physical therapy from Duke University in 2000. After graduating, she returned to the Pacific Northwest, working both in the Portland area and returning to Seattle 7 years ago.  The majority of her career has been spent working with a mix of orthopedic/sports and women’s health patients. Within her subspecialty of women’s health, she enjoys working with patients with incontinence and pelvic pain, as well as patients who are pregnant and postpartum.  She realizes that most women take prenatal classes during their first pregnancy to learn about what's ahead for them with respect to their delivery, but very few take a postpartum class to learn about how to take vare of their body after having their baby and why this is so essential for their long-term health.  Nolana is passionate about empowering women through their pregnancies and postpartum experience to understand more about the changes that occur to their bodies and what they should do to prevent future complications.  In addition to her female patients, Nolana uses her specialized knowledge in diagnosis and treatment of lumbopelvic-hip conditions for her male patients as well.

Her training blends manual therapy techniques from North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) with exercise and movement focused treatment based on theories and techniques from the  Postural Restoration Institute, and Movement Systems Impairments (MSI) as developed by Shirley Sahrmann, PT, PhD, FAPTA.  She is most recently certified as an Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. This certification is awarded to those individuals who have demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skills in physical therapy specialty areas.

Nolana firmly believes that the key to a positive outcome is through education regarding the underlying cause of your condition and how manage your condition both short and long term.  She believes the patient /practitioner relationship is a partnership.  As a team, you work together towards achieving your goals, ultimately leading to a lifestyle of health, wellness, and fitness.

A native of the Seattle area she attended Nathan Hale high school. She started her undergraduate work at Seattle University and finished at the University of Washington.  At Seattle University, she was a member of the women’s basketball team and at UW was team captain of the women’s track and field team with her favorite running distance 400m.

Outside of work hours she spends time with her son and daughter, following them in their sports and recreational activities.  A sports enthusiast, she enjoys watching most sports and running to stay fit. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with a good book.

Movement Systems welcomes Nolana to our highly skilled team of practitioners.
