Gretchen Deutschlander, DPT

Gretchen Deutschlander, DPT received her undergraduate degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Montana State University in Bozeman in 2005. Through her course work in the life sciences, she developed an interest in human anatomy and physiology which led her to pursue a degree in physical therapy.

In 2009, she earned her DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) from Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL). With the support of outstanding faculty, including Shirley Sahrmann, PT, PhD, FAPTA, she learned the fundamental principles behind the diagnosis and treatment of Movement System Impairments (MSI). It is this treatment approach upon which Movement Systems Physical Therapy has been based since its origination in 1995.

During both her undergraduate and graduate studies, Gretchen also developed a love for teaching and research, serving as a teaching assistant and research assistant throughout her undergraduate education and as a research assistant during graduate studies at WUSTL.  During this research assistantship, she worked with faculty on the implementation of exercise-based research projects.

As the newest addition to the Movement Systems Physical Therapy staff, Gretchen brings both a passion for physical therapy and a background in the diagnosis and treatment of a MSI as they relate to a variety of orthopedic conditions.  She has been working for the past year as an out-patient physical therapist, with an emphasis on musculoskeletal conditions and the biomechanical factors that cause pain and dysfunction.  Additionally, over the past year she has developed an interest in vestibular rehabilitation, focusing her clinical practice on the diagnosis and treatment of common vestibular disorders.

Outside of work Gretchen takes advantage of all the Pacific Northwest has to offer.  As an avid runner and hiker, she gets outside at every opportunity.  She has also recently taken up cycling, with the purchase of her first road bike.
